Yes. Lemonrock uses a very simple page editor which you see after you login (view examples here »). Adding a gig, band/artist or venue is easy. And once you've done that, adding classified ads and news is a breeze. We've spent years making Lemonrock simple and quick to use.
All members get 14 days FREE trial membership (Music Lover membership is completely free). After your trial membership expires, you can upgrade to Full Membership, get much larger allowances for gigs, photos, MP3s, blogs, etc.
First, join Lemonrock as a Band/Artist member or as a Venue/Promoter member. After you submit the joining form, we create a login account for you, and allocate any existing bands/artists or venues that you want to edit. You then receive an e-mail from us containing your password. Simply login, and start adding gigs (see below).
There is a step-by-step guide here ». Briefly, the steps to create a gig are:
1. Make sure that the venue exists (create it in 'my venues' if not)
2. Make sure that the band/artist exists (create it in 'my bands/artists' if not). These new venues or bands/artists remain 'yours' until the actual owner requests that they are transferred to them.
3. Create the new gig in your 'my gigs' section, selecting the venue and band/artist by typing in the name, or selecting it from a list.
If you prefer, you can also create a gig quickly by going to a venue or band/artist page and clicking on the 'Add gig...' link near the top of the page. You must be logged in to add gigs.
Gigs for each day are shown in the gig guide in the order they were added to the site, so the sooner you add them, the more exposure they'll get. Regular gigs are always listed after all the one-off gigs. Please note that certain genres, such as 'other', 'comedy', 'karaoke' and 'disco' are listed at the end.
Yes. To prevent the gig showing up in the public listings, your venue name or gig 'short description' should include the word 'private' (e.g. 'Private Function'). All private gigs appear on your own page, in your private diary and in your gig feeds.
Most mobile phones have a mini web-browser (or at least an older-style black and white WAP browser) built in. Just type in 'lemonrock.com' (or 'lemonrock.mobi') to see what's on in your area over the next few weeks; search for bands and venues, and browse ads and news. You can easily change the postcode/city search, and Lemonrock will save your settings for next time.
Just tell us when you join if you're already on Lemonrock. If you are, we'll give you permission to change that page. If you're not on Lemonrock, you simply create your own page!
Yes, if you are connected with the band/venue and the page is unadopted. Simply apply to be a Lemonrock member (Band/Artist Member or Venue/Promoter Member, as appropriate). Once you have been given your password you can login and edit the details (we set this up for you when you join). If the page is unmaintained, rather than unadopted, it may have been previously adopted by someone connected with the band/venue. You can still apply to maintain the page, but we may reduce your free trial period if another member of your band, or a previous venue member, was maintaining your page before.
Once you've joined Lemonrock, you simply click a button on your edit page to select the photo. It's really easy! Photos appear instantly on the site. You can change your photo as often as you like. You can also add lots of photos for inclusion in your own 'gallery' on your page, and select any of these as your main photo, so you can ring the changes!
Yes. No-one else apart from you and the Lemonrock Editors can access your band, venue or business details. If you add gigs to the site, these can be edited by the venue, the artist and the Editors. More info »
Yes, if the band/artist has no photo on their page, you can put your own photo of them into the gig listing. Otherwise the band/artist's own photo will be used in the listing.
No photos are ever actually deleted without your confirmation. There is a limit of 50 photos that you can upload and keep on the site. The 6 photos shown on your page are the ones that have the lowest 'Show order' numbers, which you set for each photo. For example, if you have 8 photos ('Show order' in brackets):
1. Dave (6) 2. Dee (5) 3. Dozy (0) 4. Beaky (9) 5. Mick (4) 6. Tich (3) 7. Elvis (2) 8. Cliff (1)
then photos 4. (Beaky) and 1. (Dave) will not show because they have the highest numbers when only 6 photos can be shown.
In addition, the order of photos shown is by increasing 'Show order', left to right.
If several members of the band want to join, it's best to use the same login details as the original applicant. In certain circumstances we may be able to offer you a separate login account - please e-mail us your requirements. Note that when you share a login account, only one of you can be logged in at once.
Yes. Simply login, write your story (or cut and paste it from somewhere else), and click a button. You can include a photo to accompany the story, too. We'll review all the stories we receive, (and edit them where necessary), and we aim to get your story onto the main news page of the site within 24 hours. Very short articles may not be published, at the Editor's discretion. News articles containing only gig dates will not be published.
When you login, create a new gig or event in your 'my gigs' tab. Fill in the information about the event, and then set the Repeat period to 'every week', 'every 2 weeks' etc, and set the week pattern in the On/Off boxes. You must also set a final date that is within one year of the start date. Your event will then show up in our listings until the final date. To keep your gig showing regularly in our gig guide, you should update the start and final dates before the final date, say every few months.
There is an 'end date' for all regular gigs. Create two entries for the gig, one ending before the holiday, the other starting after the holiday. You'll need to re-enter the same event information in both regular gigs.
Note that, if your regular event would actually fall on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year's Day, your regular gig will *NOT* show, as Lemonrock automatically suppresses regular gigs that fall on these special days. However, Christmas Eve, Dec 24th, is not automatically suppressed.
You simply create a one-off gig on the relevant date. You can choose how one-off gigs and regular gigs interact - each regular gig has a 'One-off gig override' setting in your edit page. You can choose to show both the gigs, or to only show the one-off gig, as you wish.
After your free period has finished, you can easily renew your membership. Just login, go to your 'my membership' section on your edit page, and click the 'Upgrade to Full Membership' button. You can also renew any time before your free period expires, and will get the full membership period added on to the end of your free period.
No. You will get all your original membership period, plus the new period that you pay for (12 months). In other words, the membership that you pay for is added on to the end of your current membership, which you can see in your 'my membership' section.
1. Promoter Membership (for bands/artists, or venues/promoters, or shops/studios/businesses etc)
2. FREE Music Lover Membership (for posting classified ads, seeing what's happening in your personal music network, more powerful searches, gig alerts and more)
After your free trial, you can choose to continue using the full features of Lemonrock by paying the membership fee on-line. If you choose not to upgrade to Full Membership, you will not be able to add new gigs, photos, ads, MP3s, blogs or news. You can upgrade to Full Membership at any time, before or after your free trial period.
If you're joining as a Music Lover Member (FREE) and are not connected with a band/artist, venue or music service, you'll get instant access. If you're joining as a band/artist, venue or services Member, we aim to join you up within 24 hours, but usually this is much faster.
No. If you decide, after your free trial period, that you'd like to continue adding gigs and using Lemonrock to the full, you'll be taken to a secure WorldPay site for payment, which will only take a minute.
No, we don't keep any records of your credit/debit cards on our site. Payment is handled by a secure site run by WorldPay, part of the Royal Bank of Scotland.
No. You can add several bands/artists to your profile, and change details, add gigs, upload photos, etc for any of your bands, all for the price of one membership fee. This also applies if you run more than one venue. When you join up, remember to tell us which bands you're in or which venues you run, so that we can assign you the relevant pages if they are already on Lemonrock.
Lemonrock is free for all to browse, both on the web and on mobile phones. The small annual charge for membership (for Band, Venue and Service Member) covers the massive amount of work that goes into designing, testing, advertising and maintaining this unique site.
Lemonrock runs on a dedicated Web server (we don't share our server with anyone else) to give you faster and more reliable access to a site that is here to stay! We believe Lemonrock is great value for what it offers. The Lemonrock site is edited and maintained on a daily basis, and, like any quality newspaper or magazine, this takes a great deal of time and effort.
Our Music Lover membership is free, and enables you to login to Lemonrock, keep a personal gig diary, create your own profile, place music ads, set up gig alerts, and download MP3s.
If you want to use Lemonrock to promote events you run for a charity, we will consider giving you a free Venue/Promoter Member membership. You will need to prove to us that you are connected with a UK Registered Charity, and you must join Lemonrock using an e-mail address with the same domain name as the specified charity web site to obtain your free membership. You will only be permitted to add gigs organised by, and for the sole benefit of, the specified charity. This free membership is not offered to venues or individuals who occasionally stage charity events as well as non-charity events. Please contact us for consideration.

No. Only the e-mail addresses of your venues, bands/artists and shops/studios/businesses are shown, and you also have the option of hiding these if you want.
The town or city that you typed in has not been recognised. If you use auto-complete, you will see a list of towns appearing as you type. Select a town or city from the list by using the up and down arrow keys.
(1) Band/artist unknown. If the gig in your edit page shows * BAND/ARTIST UNKNOWN *, it will not show on any public page. You must either select a band/artist by typing their name into the 'Band/Artist' section, or by selecting a band/artist from your list of bands (this list contains bands who have played before at your venues, as well as any bands/artists you have created). If the band/artist does not yet exist on Lemonrock, you may create it in your 'my bands/artists' page, return to 'my gigs' and use the new band/artist in your gig.
(2) Venue unknown. If the gig in your edit page shows * VENUE UNKNOWN *', it will not show on any public page. You must select a venue by either typing its name into the 'Venue' section, or by selecting a venue from your list of venues (this list contains venues you have played at before, as well as any venues you have created). If the venue does not yet exist on Lemonrock, you may create it in your 'my venues' page, return to 'my gigs' and use the new venue in your gig.
(3) Not set up as a regular gig. If the gig was a regular/repeating one, make sure that you set the repeat options in your 'my gigs' page for that gig. The repeat options are 'Repeat period', 'Repeat pattern' and 'End date'.
If the final (end) date is in the past, you must change the start and end dates so that the end date is in the future again.
Find out if the existing band/artist page is being maintained by anyone (this information is at the foot of their page). If it's not regularly maintained, tell us, and we'll remove the old page so that you can maintain this band/artist yourself. However, if the band/artist page is already maintained by someone, you cannot edit their page without their login details - ask them if you know them personally.

This is to protect your computer from being misused by unauthorised people when you leave your computer unattended. If you don't type anything into the site for a certain length of time, the system will log you out automatically. You can change the length of idle time from the standard 90 minutes to anything between 10 minutes and 4 hours, by logging in and editing the number of minutes in your my details section. For your protection, please logout every time you use the site.
Lemonrock accepts fairly big photos which it cuts down to a smaller size, but yours could be even bigger than this limit (currently 10MiB). We recommend you use a picture editing program such as Microsoft Paint (this comes free with Windows - find it under Accessories from your 'Start' button) or a commercial package (such as Photoshop or PaintShop Pro) to edit the photo(s) down to the size you really want them.
In Paint, select Image > Stretch/Skew from the menu and type in a percentage to the Horizontal and Vertical boxes. Keep the numbers the same to ensure the picture is not stretched. Then save the smaller image using File > Save As from the menu. This new file is the one you should then select when adding a picture to Lemonrock.

3. change your e-mail address and click on the 'Update' button.
If you have also forgotten your password, you will have to give us some security information so that we can change your e-mail address for you. This may take us several days to set up.
It is very secure. In fact, your password is never transmitted by your computer when you login to use the site. Lemonrock uses powerful encryption techniques to guard your password.
If your password contains a dash ( - ) and you have "Caps Lock" active on your keyboard (look for the little light), your password will not be recognised, because the upper-case dash, on the same key as the dash, is a different character (it is an underscore _ ). If your password only contains letters, you can type it in upper or lower case. Once you have logged in, you can change your password to anything you like.
No - you can post your press releases under your 'my news' section when you login. This makes it possible for us to get your details onto the site as quickly as possible.
No - Lemonrock is yours to browse and search for suitable bands/artists. See where they have played before, listen to their MP3s, see if they are free, and/or contact them!
No - all the details of bands and artists on Lemonrock are there for all to see. We don't have any details about bands and artists not on Lemonrock. We recommend you use Google to find about any bands and artists that we don't list.
No: Lemonrock is your very own publicity machine at your fingertips! You simply login and add your details yourself - it's easy, and you can modify the information at any time. If you want to attract even more attention to your band/gig/venue/event, you can login, write and submit your own news article (under your 'my news' section) and we'll add it to our news page.
Lemonrock is visited by thousands of live music-goers every day. If people don't know about you, your band or your venue, or can't find you on the Web, they use Lemonrock, an established gig guide since 2000. People rely on the accurate and up-to-date information on Lemonrock, because it's easy for artists and venues themselves to update their own pages. Lemonrock is the first place that music goers look, either on the Web or on their mobile phones. When someone searches for gigs by city, town or postcode, your gig or venue comes up in the listing for the requested area and day(s).
Lemonrock was established in 2000, when the race for good domain names was already in full stride. We spent weeks looking for an easy-to-remember name that was made up of two simple words, and would stick in people's minds. Lemonrock was born! Also, lemon rock is the sweet lemon-flavoured soft rock (candy) like Edinburgh Rock you get in Scotland, which reminded the Editor of his happy childhood there...
If you join as a Band/Artist Member, you will be able to add and edit gigs where your bands/artists are playing (the venue may already exist, or you can create new venues). Or, if you join as a Venue/Promoter Member, you will be able add and edit gigs for your own venues (the bands may already exist, or, again, you can create them if they don't yet exist on Lemonrock). To summarise:
As a Band/Artist Member:
You can create bands/artists ('your' bands and artists) You can create gigs for your bands/artists at *any* venue You can create venues if they don't already exist You cannot create gigs for bands/artists that are *not* yours
As a Venue/Promoter Member:
You can create venues ('your' venues) You can create gigs for your venues for *any* artist or band You can create bands/artists if they don't already exist You cannot create gigs for venues that are *not* yours
We regularly clear out old venues and bands/artists that have had no gigs, have no information about themselves or are otherwise not really part of the live music scene. If the band/artist or venue has a new gig, you can create the band/artist anew in 'my bands/artists', or the venue in 'my venues' in your edit page. Writing something useful about the new band/artist or venue will increase its chances of staying on Lemonrock after the gig has passed.
