one door closes... Yet another venue to bite the dust is the Parrot Inn at Slyfield, Guildford. The last gig BandX did there it looked like the pub may close totally; the landlord said no more music. But the good news is that The Fox and Hounds at Fleet goes from strength to strength. "We played a really good gig there last month", BandX told Lemonrock. "It's great to see a newish venue that has a proactive Landlord and good promotion doing so well." [7 Aug 08] |

Andy Sharrocks supports John Mayall at Jazz Cafe Less than six months after being denied entry to the USA to record a new album with Bobby Vee's sons Jeff and Tommy, Andy Sharrocks with his occasional band The Smokin Jackets support John Mayall at Camden's Jazz Cafe. Deported for two minor cannabis charges over thirty years ago, with his guitarist The Reverent Paul Green, Andy didn't know which way his career was going to go, until a call confirming the two dates with The Godfather of British Blues, John Mayall came through. Andy says: 'To support John Mayall has got to be one of the biggest accolades you can hope for as a UK Americana artiste. John is a legend, and I feel blessed to be his support at such a prestigious London venue. We also have a link, with Mick Taylor, who played with John and who John recommended to The Rolling Stones, after the death Brian Jones and who also played on my debut solo album Walking In Familiar Footsteps, co writing two of the songs.' | Another one bites the dust Rough Justice received the news today (15 July 08) that the Armstrong Gun will no longer be hosting live music. The previous landlord Stu is a great guy who loves his rock music and he would put on his favourite bands, on an irregular basis, as and when he felt like it. Unfortunately, the brewery decided to terminate his contract and move in a new manager who will not be continuing the music. [15 Jul 08] |

| Moose on the Loose - Luton's Liveliest Covers Band! During the week they're all respected pillars of the community, holding down respectable jobs and behaving like sensible adults. Come the weekend, their Canadian alter-egos emerge and Moose On The Loose let rip. The four ageing rockers of Luton's liveliest covers band like nothing better than playing their own particular brand of rhythm and blues to an appreciative audience. And they'll be performing at The Hollybush in Redbourn on Saturday in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The group comprises B&Q plumbing expert Mick Wilson of Sundon Park, who plays a mean rhythm guitar and coyly admits to being 50 plus; Dunstable health and safety supremo Shaun Simpson, 48, on bass; graphic designer Barry Monks, 58 of Breachwood Green, who claims Beatle George Harrison is his idol; and Mall business manager Paul Bentham, the baby of the group at 45, who lives in the Wardown area and drums up a storm - even when he hasn't got any kit. What sets them apart from other bands doing similar sets... more » [14 Jul 08] |
